Walk Cycle Generator: Eight Directions, One Sheet
Name a character and get a looping walk — eight directions, eight frames each — on one transparent sheet, plus a page where they walk it.

A walk cycle you can ship, not just watch
Most walk-cycle pages show a loop someone else drew. This one starts from your character: five directions drawn, three mirrored, every row on one ground line, and a page that plays the set before you open Godot.
- Eight facings from five Five directions are generated and three are mirrored, so the body never changes when the character turns left — one generation buys the full set.
- One ground line Every row is aligned to the same foot line, so walking north and walking east keep the same height on screen.
- A pack an engine reads A transparent 8-row sheet, per-direction frames and GIFs, a JSON with cell size and animations, and a zip with Godot, Unity and Phaser notes.
Questions, answered
Is this a side-view walk cycle or a top-down one?
Eight directions: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W and NW. If you need a classic side view for a platformer, the east and west rows are exactly that, one facing each way. The other six are there for top-down and isometric games.
Do I need to draw or upload anything?
No. Name a character in the world, or describe someone in a sentence — build, hair, outfit, colours. A character already in the world is used with their own cover as the reference, so the face and outfit stay theirs.
How many frames is the walk?
Eight frames per direction at 8 fps, so one loop is about a second. The pack keeps the frames separate, so you can slow the walk in the engine without re-rendering it.
What exactly do I get?
spritesheet-8dir.png with eight rows in a fixed order, frames/<DIR>/01–08.png, gifs/<DIR>.gif, a JSON with the cell size and animations, and assets.zip holding all of it. The run also publishes a page where the character walks.
Can it run instead of walk?
Yes — ask for a run and the same eight directions come back at a running cadence. Ask for four directions and you still get all eight; the answer names which four rows are N, E, S and W.
Will it look like my character?
It uses the world's visual style and the character's own cover as the identity reference. For pixel-art characters the cells snap to whole pixels and the edges stay hard when you scale the sheet up.
What about animals or creatures?
A dog, horse or dragon that walks on the ground gets a four-legged walk. A character that only flies or swims is out of scope here — the run says so and points to a side-view creature animation instead of drawing legs that were never there.
Can I fix one direction later?
Re-run with the same character and direction; the pack is built again from the same identity reference, and the old page stays until you replace it, so you can compare the two sheets side by side.
Give one character a walk they can loop.
Eight directions, eight frames each, one transparent sheet, and a page where they walk. Start with Raiden Shogun, or name your own.
