lumin

Final Product: Lumin

A peaceful enchanted garden where small alien creatures called Lumins are collected, bred and raised — colours blend, traits pass down through families, and every egg hatches in its own time.

Lumin is a playable, browser-based cozy creature garden. Its first Lumins arrived as founders — strangers with strange colours — and they have been waiting for someone to care for them, to pair them gently, and to see what their children will look like. Choose a founder pair, breed them in the Breeding Nook, wait for the egg to warm, and hatch a baby whose body colour is the exact midpoint of its parents’.

Roam the Home Yard and the keeper’s House, grow a deep family in the Collection, track generations in the Journal, then keep breeding for new ear types, tails and coats. The garden remembers everything — nothing is lost when you close the page.

Game Features

  • Live LLM Game Design — every part of the garden was directed by AI as it was built: the one-line seed became the world, the six founder Lumins, the modular sprite rig, the parchment art and the full breeding loop, designed and coded live until the game ran in the browser (deepseek-v4-flash real-time build). From one sentence to a finished cozy sim.
  • Colour-Mixing Genetics — a hatchling’s body colour is the exact RGB midpoint of its parents’ body colours. Pair a magenta Rowan with a green Fern and you can predict the child before it hatches.
  • Seven Inherited Traits — eye colour, nose colour, inner-ear colour, ear type, tail type and body pattern are each inherited from one parent, alongside body colour. Parents are saved on every Lumin, so whole family lines stay readable.
  • Egg Lifecycle with Real Timers — breeding creates a persistent egg with one of eight visual variants. A countdown warms it (five minutes in the prototype), the egg becomes hatchable, and only your Hatch press releases the baby. Timers keep counting if you close and reopen the page.
  • A Living Yard & House — up to six Lumins roam the illustrated garden with gentle idle movement and depth scaling — further Lumins sit smaller and behind, closer ones larger and in front. Click any Lumin to open its profile; step through the cottage door into the House.
  • Collection, Journal & Browser Play — a paged 12-per-page Collection with filters (male, female, baby, adult) and sorting by newest, oldest, name or true rainbow body colour, plus a Journal of breeding goals. Runs entirely in your browser, no download — save, close and return to the same garden.

Production Process Breakdown

Stage 1: World Buildingclaude-opus-5
From the one-line seed “Lumin — a cozy creature garden” the AI built the world: a peaceful enchanted garden whose founder Lumins arrived as strangers with strange colours, plus the overview, tone, era and the Classic Fantasy Parchment visual style that governs every asset.
Stage 2: Creature & Sprite Artgpt-image-2
The AI designed the Lumin species — a blend of fox, cat, ferret and gentle alien — then generated the parchment scene backgrounds (Home Yard, House interior, Breeding Nook) and the modular adult and baby creature art: body, ears, tails, eyes and coat patterns kept as separate transparent layers.
Stage 3: Genetics & Game Codedeepseek-v4-flash
The inheritance engine was coded live: RGB-midpoint body colour, one-parent inheritance for eyes, nose, inner ears, ears, tail and coat, parent IDs stored on every Lumin, eight egg variants on a real timestamped incubation timer, and a persistent save that survives a page reload.
Stage 4: QA & One-Click Publishclaude-opus-5
The finished build was exercised end to end — founder selection, breeding, incubation, hatching, maturation, Collection paging and yard depth — then published with one click as a shareable browser game.

Scene Backgrounds

Asset Prompts

Cover Key-Art Promptgpt-image-2
“Antique parchment storybook illustration, game cover key art, 16:9, for a cozy creature-collecting garden game titled ‘Lumin’. A peaceful enchanted garden at golden hour: a mossy clearing with a large round nest woven from twigs, straw and moss, a small stone cottage with a green door … several small big-eyed creatures in varied coat colours, each with long soft ears and curled or fluffy tails … fine brown ink contours, soft shallow shading, subtle paper grain. No watermark, no logo.”
Home Yard Background Promptgpt-image-2
“Create a wide game background image for a cozy creature-collecting game. Scene: a peaceful enchanted garden yard — clipped hedges and flower borders along the far edge, a small wooden gate, a mossy stone path curving across the lawn, wildflowers, ferns and one old apple tree at the side, soft morning light. The lower third of the image is open empty grass so small creatures can stand on it … Style: antique parchment storybook illustration, fine brown ink contours, warm cream and parchment tones, moss and sage greens, deep plum accents, soft shallow shading, subtle paper grain.”
Breeding Nook Background Promptgpt-image-2
“Create a game background image for a cozy creature-collecting game. Scene: a soft mossy garden clearing at dusk, a large round nest woven from twigs, straw and moss at the center, low flowering plants, ferns and a few tiny glowing fireflies around the edges, warm lantern light from a nearby branch. The ground beside the nest is open soft grass so small creatures can stand on either side … no characters, no animals, no text, no captions.”
House Interior Background Promptgpt-image-2
“Create a game background image for a cozy creature-collecting game. Scene: the warm interior of an enchanted cottage belonging to a creature keeper — a stone fireplace with a gentle fire on one side, a squashy armchair with a knitted blanket, a woven rug, a round window letting in garden light, a low bookshelf, potted ferns; the lower third of the image is open warm wooden floor so small creatures can stand on it … Keep the center of the floor clear and uncluttered.”
Sprite Cutout Passbirefnet-general
Full-body creature art is kept on transparent layers and every in-scene Lumin is isolated with BiRefNet background removal, so the coloured founders you meet in the yard can be lifted cleanly for cards, sprites and share art.
