What is inside

A single painted base map, 20 location markers, and 20 detail scenes with three points of interest each. The route runs from The Shire to Grey Havens.

  • The Shire Green hills, round doors and garden lanes: the small, stubbornly ordinary country that the whole war exists to protect.
  • Bree a crossroads town of Men and Hobbits, lamps, stables and crowded common rooms where the road first becomes dangerous.
  • Old Forest a dense, watchful wood east of the Shire, older than roads, where paths close behind travellers and the trees seem to…
  • Rivendell a hidden valley of waterfalls, terraces and elven halls, a refuge where wounds are healed and hard councils are held.
  • Moria the greatest dwarf-city ever delved, now a lightless labyrinth of bridges, halls and tombs beneath the mountains.
  • Lothlórien a golden wood of immense mallorn trees and silent elven watchposts, beautiful and already fading into memory.
  • Amon Hen a hilltop seat of seeing above the falls of Rauros, where the Fellowship's road finally breaks apart.
  • Rohan an ocean of grass and wind where horse-lords ride, oaths are sworn, and war comes across open ground.
  • Edoras the hilltop capital of Rohan, a palisaded city of golden halls and burial mounds beneath the white mountains.
  • Helm's Deep a fortress carved into a mountain wall, its deep gorge and long wall the stage of a night-long desperate defence.
  • Fangorn Forest an ancient, close-packed forest of enormous trees where the past still walks slowly and speaks in deep voices.
  • Isengard a great stone ring around a black spire, once a watchpost of the West, later a furnace of industry and ruin.
  • Dead Marshes a grey waste of reeds and still pools where the faces of old battle-dead flicker beneath the water.
  • Minas Tirith the white city of Gondor, seven ascending rings of stone crowned by the Citadel and the White Tree.
  • Osgiliath the ruined former capital of Gondor, its broken bridge and drowned streets the first line against Mordor.
  • Minas Morgul a dead city of pale sickly light beneath the mountains, crowned by a tower of ghosts and a terrible gate.
  • Mordor a land of ash, slag and shadow ringed by mountains, where one will turns a whole country into a weapon.
  • Barad-dûr Sauron's black tower, impossibly tall above the ash plain, its lidless eye searching the lands of the free.
  • Mount Doom the smoking volcano of Orodruin, the only furnace hot enough to unmake the One Ring.
  • Grey Havens the western harbour where the last white ship sails beyond the curve of the world, and every victory ends in farewell.
