Shirou Ogami (BNA): The Wolf Who Was There First

Shirou Ogami is BNA's original Ginrou — a wolf beastman social worker who despises humans and protects Anima City. His powers and three scenes.

Who Is Shirou Ogami?

Shirou Ogami is the deuteragonist of BNA: Brand New Animal. He is a Wolf Beastman who works as a social worker in Anima City, and he is also the first and original Ginrou — the silver wolf the city's legends are built on. He despises humans, fights for beastman rights, and ends up as the primary caretaker of Michiru Kagemori after she arrives in the city as a newly transformed beastman.

What He Can Do

  • Transcended physiology — Once an ordinary beastman, he became something closer to a god-beast when the souls of his fallen kin merged with his own. His strength and endurance sit well beyond a normal beastman's.
  • Keen smell — His nose outperforms the Anima City police, who bring him in as an advisor for tracking.
  • The wolf — The Ginrou form is not a transformation he puts on for show; it is what he is underneath the trench coat.

The Look

In human form: a young man in his twenties with pale skin, messy choppy white hair with bangs, and teal-cyan eyes. A beige trench coat with the collar up over a black sweater, black cropped gloves, slim dark grey chinos and dark brown chelsea boots. Around his neck, a dark brown dog collar with a silver buckle — a detail the series later uses, because in Anima City he stops wearing it and the scar underneath becomes visible.

Personality

Quiet and stoic, and proud in a way that is almost political: he is proud to have been born a beastman and moved to see them celebrating their own city. The flip side is a hard hatred of humans who disrupt Anima City, and a rule he applies without mercy — any beastman who works for humans is a traitor. He is not cruel for pleasure. He is a man who decided a long time ago that the cost of being soft was paid by people who are no longer alive.

Relationships

Michiru is the relationship that changes him: a newly transformed beastman who needs a caretaker and does not want one. Beyond her, his ties are to Anima City itself and to the kin whose souls he carries — and his rule about traitors is the wall most other characters run into.

Trivia

  • The original — He is the first Ginrou — the legend is about him, not the other way round.
  • The prequel — He is the protagonist of the light novel BNA Zero: Beasts That Can't Become Even Better.
  • The collar — In Anima City he stops wearing it, revealing the scar on his neck.

In the Story

Anima City exists so that beastmen can live without hiding, and Shirou works inside its machinery as a social worker — which is a strange job for a legend, and exactly the point. He is not a vigilante cleaning the streets; he is a civil servant who happens to be the most dangerous thing in the city.

Michiru's arrival reorganises him. She is newly transformed, terrified, and refuses to be handled, and his role shifts from enforcer to caretaker by increments he would never admit to. The series keeps testing the rule he lives by — that any beastman working for humans is a traitor — and keeps finding people who make the rule look like what it is: a scar with a policy attached.
