Miss Bloomie: Paper School’s Science Teacher

Miss Bloomie: Paper School’s Science Teacher

Miss Bloomie of Fundamental Paper Education: the box-cutter arm, the science classroom, her age, her role in Basics in Behavior, and how to play her in a scene.

Who Miss Bloomie is

Miss Bloomie is one of the three main antagonists of Fundamental Paper Education, Kaaatie’s hand-drawn web series, and one of the three teachers at Paper School who kill students — the other two being Miss Circle and Miss Thavel. She teaches science. That is the joke the series builds on: a staff room of ordinary academic specialisms attached to people who murder their failing students at the end of term.

She appears in Basics in Behavior, first teaching science in her own classroom, then walking the hallway, and finally as part of the trio that corners Claire with a stack of failed tests. The wiki is specific about her temperament: where the others are reckless, she is not. She is a strict, feared teacher, but her violence is deliberate rather than impulsive — a distinction that matters when you are writing her into a scene, because it decides what she does in the two seconds before anything happens.

Sit at the back of her classroom

Give the roleplay skill the setup — a failed test, a lesson that has just ended, a door you were told not to use. It plays Miss Bloomie in her own voice, and she does not lose her temper to be dramatic.

✦Roleplay
Use the roleplay skill to open a scene in Paper School with e.g. Miss Bloomie’s science classroom, ten minutes after the lesson — the marking is already done; that is the problem.

The look, in detail

Her design is unusually literal about what she does for a living and what she does to students. Short black bob with blunt bangs. Two black horns tilted to the left, the left one slightly larger than the right. Her hair is tied in a small ponytail with a white bow. She wears a white-collared black long-sleeved shirt with two white buttons and a long white skirt; her legs are black and pointed. Her left forearm is replaced by a blade like a giant box cutter, while her right hand is white with pointed fingers. And she has a forked tongue, like a snake’s — a detail you never see coming and cannot unsee.

  • The bob and the horns — Blunt bangs, two horns leaning left, the left one bigger. Asymmetry on purpose: nothing about her face is centred.
  • The bow — A white ribbon tying the ponytail. It reads as a schoolgirl accessory, which is exactly the wrong register for a 36-year-old teacher.
  • The arm — Left forearm replaced by a box-cutter blade. Not a claw, not a scythe — a tool for opening packaging.
  • The skirt — Long and white, which keeps her silhouette tidy right up until the blade comes up.
  • The tongue — Forked, snake-like. The wiki notes it; the series rarely gives you a good look.
The three murder teachers, and what separates them
Miss CircleThe one the fandom remembers first: maths, a compass, and the least patience of the three.
Miss ThavelEnglish, and the tallest of the trio. Age 35, confirmed by Kaaatie alongside Bloomie.
Miss BloomieScience, age 36, the shortest of the three — and, per the wiki, the least reckless. The one who walks instead of lunging.

Personality: the façade and the drop

Kaaatie’s own introduction for the teachers is pure deadpan propaganda — “They are the best teachers ever! They are kind to all students!” — and the wiki describes the character exactly in those terms: a normal teacher at first glance, whose façade drops the moment a student fails her class. What separates Bloomie from her colleagues is restraint. She is strict, feared, and willing to kill, but she is not reckless about it. In a scene that means she is the one who waits, who lets the silence do the work, who has already decided the outcome before you finish your excuse.

Stories with the same temperature

None of these are Paper School stories, but each runs on the thing Bloomie does best: an institution that is polite right up until it is not.

Rules, corridors, and doors you were warned about

O.S.F; Dead Road is a corridor with a rule at the end of it, and the closest analogue here to a school where failing has a consequence. The Haunted Castle is a building that punishes curiosity — the same architecture of warning signs, one corridor over. Just Monika: First Club Day supplies the other half of her: authority that stays cheerful while it takes the exits away.

Quiet menace, and one room that will not open

White Elm Sanatorium: Room 17 confines the whole story to a single room with a single rule, which is the format her classroom would run on if the bell never rang. Every Breath You Take is about attention that cannot be declined, delivered in a level voice. Obsession is the version at feature length: someone who refuses to be written out, and never once raises their voice about it.

Three scenes to open her with

1

The marked paper

She sets your test down on the desk, face down, and starts talking about something else entirely. The grade is not the point; the waiting is.

2

The end of the lesson

The bell has gone, everyone else has left, and she asks you to stay behind to help with the equipment. Nothing threatening is said. That is the scene.

3

The door with the sign

An exit sign that was not there yesterday. You are late, she is in the corridor, and she does not run.

The roleplay hub opens a scene with her in the browser, with continuity between sessions. The other Paper School characters are linked below if you would rather sit in someone else’s classroom.

Built with the roleplay skill

roleplay keeps her register even when the scene gets loud: a science teacher who is calmer than everyone in the room, remembers what you failed last term, and never explains the joke. character-sheet is the companion call — the bob, the horns, the blade — so the figure at the front of the class stays the same person from scene to scene.
