Dragon Ball Quiz: 12 Questions With Sources

Dragon Ball Quiz: 12 Questions With Sources

A Dragon Ball quiz that tests the rules, not the episode numbers: Kakarot, Planet Vegeta, the Super Saiyan legend and Cell’s two absorptions. Answers included.

A quiz about the rules, not the trivia

Dragon Ball is a series where the rules are the story. A planet is destroyed because one emperor is afraid of a legend; a man is kind because of a head injury; a villain is defeated by a wish that can only bring back people dead less than a year. Those are not background details. They are the machinery that makes the fights mean something, and they are what this quiz asks about.

Twelve questions, one sourced answer each, all of them drawn from the canon rather than from filler, games or guidebook speculation. The answers sit under the questions, so the page works as a test and as a reading list. It spoils the Frieza and Cell arcs, which is unavoidable: you cannot ask why Planet Vegeta was destroyed without saying who destroyed it.

Run the tournament instead of reading about it

The roleplay skill can put you in a bracket: a fighter, a technique, an opponent who has already read your file. It keeps the rules — the transformations cost something, the wish has a catch — instead of handing you a power level.

✦Roleplay
Use the roleplay skill to run a Dragon Ball tournament scene where e.g. I fight Vegeta in the preliminaries — one arena, one rulebook, no plot armour.

Why the early rules still matter

The Saiyan arc is where Dragon Ball stops being an adventure and becomes a system, and the system is built on three rules that never get retconned: a full moon plus a tail equals a Great Ape; a legend nobody has seen in a thousand years is still worth a genocide to prevent; and death is reversible but not cheap. Every later arc — Frieza, Cell, Buu, even Super — spends these rules rather than inventing new ones.

  • Transformation has a condition — The Great Ape needs the moon and a tail. The Super Saiyan needs a trigger. Power in this series is always conditional, which is why the fights can be lost.
  • Wishes have fine print — Seven balls, one dragon, and a limit on mass revival. The heroes win with a wish in the Cell arc and it costs them a year of options.
  • Genocide is the origin — Planet Vegeta’s destruction is the load-bearing event: it creates Goku’s exile, Vegeta’s pride, Frieza’s recurring role and the Super Saiyan legend’s payoff.
  • The villain is a mirror — Frieza is what the Saiyans were, with better manners. The series never lets the heroes forget that they were the monsters first.

The questions and the answers

1. What was Goku’s name at birth, and who were his parents?
Kakarot. He is the second-born son of Bardock and Gine, and the younger brother of Raditz — sent to Earth as an infant, adopted by Grandpa Gohan and renamed Son Goku.

2. Why is Goku not a destroyer, given what he was sent to Earth to do?
A head injury in early childhood altered his memory and stripped away his initial destructive nature. The kindest character in shonen is the result of an accident.

3. What is Vegeta’s full title?
Vegeta IV, prince of the fallen Saiyan race — eldest son of King Vegeta, husband of Bulma, father of Trunks and Bulla.

4. Which planet did the Saiyans take, and what was it renamed?
They annihilated the Tuffles and renamed their world Planet Vegeta, after their commanding hero King Vegeta. The Great Ape transformation, possible under a full moon, is what won them that war.

5. Who destroyed Planet Vegeta, and why?
Frieza, out of paranoia about the Super Saiyan legend — after informal permission from Beerus. It is the single event that explains most of the cast.

6. How many Dragon Balls are on Earth, and who appears when they are gathered?
Seven, summoning Shenron, who grants wishes. Individually they are inert; only the full set has power.

7. What is the limit when the Dragon Balls revive several people at once?
Only those who have been dead for one year or less can be revived in a multi-person wish — a rule the wiki is careful to separate from the popular misreading.

8. Who created Cell?
Dr. Gero, through cell recombination using the genetics of the strongest fighters his remote tracking device could find on Earth: Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza and King Cold.

9. What does Cell need to reach his perfect form?
To absorb Androids 17 and 18. Two absorptions, one transformation — the whole arc is a countdown to a merge.

10. How long had it been since anyone became a Super Saiyan?
Over a thousand years — long enough that the form was treated as a legend rather than a technique. Frieza believed the legend enough to commit genocide over it.

11. Who proved the legend true, and against whom?
Goku, twenty-five years after Planet Vegeta’s destruction, during his battle with Frieza on Namek.

12. Which modern series inherits Dragon Ball’s power logic most directly?
Jujutsu Kaisen: ranked techniques, escalating opponents, and a tournament-shaped plot. Chainsaw Man keeps the contract logic and drops the tournament.

The one misreading worth correcting

The revival rule is the most commonly mangled fact in the fandom. The Earth Dragon Balls can bring back many people at once, and when they do, only those who have been dead for one year or less can return. That is not the same as “you can only be revived within a year of dying,” which is what most retellings say. The wiki is explicit that all Kami ever states is the condition on multi-person wishes. It is a small thing, and it changes how you read the Cell arc’s ending: the heroes are not buying time, they are spending a specific and limited resource.

Where the same machinery runs

These are real stories on Neta Studio built on tournament logic, ranked techniques and powers that cost something.

A bracket is a story engine

Naruto vs Sasuke: Duel reduces a rivalry to a matchup and a round, which is the Dragon Ball tournament in its purest form. Jujutsu Kaisen World Portal keeps the ranking and the escalation but makes the techniques stranger.

Or a world where the rules are the antagonist

Final Selection: Night of Wisteria puts its cast on one mountain with a rule nobody explains properly. One Piece Interactive Map runs the long voyage instead, with a crew that keeps getting stronger for reasons the world charges them for.

How to use a quiz like this

1

Answer before you scroll

Write your answers down first. The page is built so the answer sits directly under the question, which makes cheating easy and learning fast.

2

Mark the ones you argued with

If an answer surprised you, that is the interesting one. The rules are the part of Dragon Ball that fan memory rewrites most.

3

Then take it into a scene

The roleplay hub turns the rules into stakes: a fighter with a limit, an opponent with a read on you, and a wish you probably should not spend.

Stop guessing, start fighting

A quiz tests what you know. A roleplay tests what you do with it. Take the same rulebook into a bracket and see whether you can win without a wish.

Built with the roleplay skill

roleplay runs the bracket as a scene rather than a stat check: opponents remember earlier rounds, transformations have conditions, and a wish spent is a wish gone. character-sheet writes the fighter file — technique, limit, and the one thing that would make them break their own rule.

Dragon Ball quiz FAQ

Are the answers canon?
Yes. Each one is drawn from the Dragon Ball manga and its wiki entries, not from filler episodes, films or game-only material.

Does the quiz spoil the story?
It covers the Frieza and Cell arcs, including Planet Vegeta’s destruction and Cell’s absorptions. If you have not finished those arcs, the page will spoil them.

Why include questions that are not about fights?
Because the fights only mean something because of the rules around them. Kakarot’s head injury and the revival limit explain more about the series than any power level.

Is there a right answer to the last question?
The last question is an opinion — it asks which modern series inherits the power logic most directly. The answer given is an argument, not a fact.

Can I play a Dragon Ball scene instead?
Yes. The roleplay hub opens a tournament or training scene with a rulebook attached, so the power-ups have conditions rather than cutscenes.
