Lana (Fundamental Paper Education): Sock Puppets

Lana is the paper-school student who never quite followed the lesson. Her design, her friendship with Abbie, and the scene that made her famous.
Who Is Lana?
Lana is a student at Paper School in Fundamental Paper Education, the hand-drawn web series by Kaaatie. She is one of the five students introduced in the opening roster — Claire, Engel, Bubble, Lana and Abbie — and the line that introduces her group is almost an apology: they are good students, very interested in their studies, but Lana and Abbie hardly understand any of it and seem to have a lot of fun learning anyway.

What Defines Her
- The socks — She wears sock puppets on both hands, each with googly eyes. It is the detail everyone remembers, and it does the character work: a girl who talks through puppets because talking as herself is harder.
- The grades — She is implied to be among the least academically capable students, and she keeps showing up anyway.
- The friendship — Abbie is the one she is paired with — another student who struggles with the material. Their scenes are the warmest in a series that is not warm.
The Look
Semi-pale grey skin and long grey hair tied in a ponytail with a curved cowlick. Like several characters in the series she has no neck, so her head floats slightly above her shoulders. She wears a grey collared t-shirt over a black long-sleeve, dark grey trousers with visible stitches at the knee and hip, and black shoes. Dark bags under her eyes.
Personality
Cheerful and a little lost. She enjoys school without being good at it, which is a rarer combination in fiction than it should be. The gap between how hard she tries and how little she understands is played for comedy early and for something sadder later, because the series is what it is: Lana is murdered off-screen, and the show does not soften it.
Three Scenes
The oreos
A classroom scene where Lana wants something small and will not let it go. Play the negotiation.
Abbie is late
Her only real friend has not shown up and the lesson is starting. Play Lana covering for him badly.
After class
The school is quiet and Lana is still at her desk, not understanding the homework. Play the moment she decides to come back tomorrow.
Play Lana in One Sentence
Describe a scene and the cast is built around it, with memory of what happened last time.
Relationships
Her only real relationship is Abbie, the other student who does not understand the material. The pairing is the point: two people who are bad at school being good at each other. Miss Circle and the other teachers exist as pressure rather than as relationships.
Trivia
- The symbol — A piece of paper with ∆lice's symbol is drawn on the floor beside her body.
- No neck — Like several Paper School characters, her head floats without a neck.
- The puppets — Both hands wear sock puppets with googly eyes, which she uses to talk.
In the Story
Basics in Behavior introduces Lana in a classroom, working on her schoolwork, and immediately establishes the two things that define her: she is not going to understand the material, and she is going to keep trying anyway. Her focus breaks when she hears Abbie running from Miss Circle, which is the moment the series uses to show what she actually cares about — not the lesson, the friend.
The series does not protect her. Lana is murdered off-screen, and the detail that lands hardest is the smallest one: a piece of paper with ∆lice's symbol is drawn on the floor beside her body. Paper School is a place where children are made of paper, and the show is honest about what happens to paper.
