Bleach Quiz: 12 Questions With Sourced Answers

A Bleach quiz that cites the wiki: the Gotei 13, Zanpakutō release, Arrancar, the Hōgyoku and the Quincy imbalance — twelve answers you can check.

A Bleach quiz that shows its working
Most anime quizzes are written from memory, which is why half of them have a wrong answer and a comment section. This one is built backwards: the twelve answers below were checked against the Bleach wiki first, then the questions were written around them. Open a question to see the answer and the specific thing in the source that makes it true.
The questions cover the parts of the setting that actually matter to a fan argument — the structure of the Gotei 13, how a Zanpakutō releases, what separates an Arrancar from a Hollow, why the Quincy are a problem, and which orb breaks the rules of the whole cosmology. No filler, no “what colour is Ichigo’s hair”.

Quiz the world, then walk into it
Knowing the ranks is half the fun. The other half is standing in the Seireitei with a sealed blade and a captain who has already decided you are a problem.
Why these twelve
A good quiz tests the rules of a world, not the trivia of a wiki. Each of these questions is a rule that other rules depend on — get one wrong and the rest of the setting stops making sense.
- Structure first — Thirteen divisions, one founder, a Captain-Commander at the top. Every rank conversation in the series runs on this.
- Then the weapon — Shikai needs a name and a release call; Bankai needs the spirit materialised and subdued, and normally ten years or more. The release rules explain why power in Bleach is a relationship, not a stat.
- Then the species — Hollow, Arrancar, Quincy, Shinigami — four different relationships to souls, and the imbalance between them is the plot.
- Then the exceptions — The Hōgyoku and Zangetsu are the two things in the setting that break its own rules, which is why they are the last two answers.
The twelve questions
1. How many divisions make up the Gotei 13?
Thirteen. The name is literal — 護廷十三隊, the Thirteen Division Imperial Guards — and each division has its own captain and lieutenant.
2. Who founded the Gotei 13?
Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto. The wiki lists him as the organisation’s founder and its Captain-Commander.
3. A Hollow that tears off its mask and gains Shinigami-like powers is called what?
An Arrancar — Spanish for “to tear off”, Japanese for “ripped mask”. Removing the mask gives it a more humanoid form and a Zanpakutō of its own.
4. What is the small bluish-purple orb that can dissolve the boundary between Shinigami and Hollow?
The Hōgyoku. It absorbs the desires around it and manifests them, which is why Aizen’s use of it produced Arrancar far beyond the ordinary.
5. Who leads the Espada, and where do they gather?
Sōsuke Aizen leads them, and their headquarters is Las Noches in Hueco Mundo. The ten Espada each embody a different form of death.
6. Roughly how long does it normally take to achieve Bankai?
Ten years or more. It requires materialising the Zanpakutō spirit into the physical world and subjugating it — which is why the three-day shortcut in the story is such a big deal.
7. What two things does a Shinigami need to release Shikai?
Knowledge of the Zanpakutō’s name and the ability to communicate with its spirit — then the release call (Kaigō) spoken before the name. Every Zanpakutō has a different incantation.
8. What is the rite that sends a lingering soul from the World of the Living to Soul Society?
Konsō, the soul burial. It is one of the two core duties of a Shinigami, alongside purifying Hollows.
9. What do Quincy gather from the atmosphere to form their weapons?
Reishi. A Shinigami channels Reiryoku from their soul into a blade; a Quincy does the opposite, gathering ambient Reishi and coating it with their own power.
10. What is Ichigo Kurosaki’s Zanpakutō called?
Zangetsu. It is unusual in the story for being a dual blade, born from a Hollow fused with his Shinigami powers.
11. What is the Shinigami academy called?
The Shin’ō Academy. Most Shinigami join the Gotei 13 after graduating from it.
12. What happens to a Hollow’s soul when a Quincy destroys it?
It is destroyed completely rather than purified — which is exactly why the Shinigami consider the Quincy a threat to the balance between the worlds.
How to use this as a warm-up
If you are about to play a Bleach scene, run the quiz first and then write the character who gets three of them wrong. A substitute Shinigami who does not know what konsō is; a recruit who can name every captain and has never released a blade; a Quincy who can explain the imbalance better than the Shinigami can. The gaps are the character. That is also the honest way to build a fan page: get the facts right, then let the fiction be about someone who does not have them all.

Stories set in the same machinery
Neta Studio stories with ranks, blades and a bureaucracy that decides who gets sent — plus two that run on the same “rules first” pleasure.

Rank, blade, rescue
Substitute Blade is the rescue arc as a playable visual novel, and it is the best test of whether you actually know how a Zanpakutō releases. Jujutsu Kaisen World Portal keeps the grading system and swaps souls for curses.
Tests that promote or bury you
Final Selection: Night of Wisteria is the exam-night version, one era earlier. Death Note: First Judgment is the pure rules-game, and Ball of Light is the party-with-roles ancestor of the whole chain of command.
Three scenes you can play tonight
The oral exam
A captain asks you three of the questions above, in a room with no chairs. You know two answers. Play the pause before the third, and what you say instead.
The first release
You know the name of your Zanpakutō and have never said it out loud. Play the release call, and the moment the spirit answers — or does not.
The imbalance
You are the officer sent to explain to a Quincy why destroying Hollows completely is a problem. Play the argument with someone who is right about the facts and wrong about the conclusion.
The cast, briefly

From quiz to scene
The answers here are the rules a Bleach roleplay runs on: divisions, release calls, the balance between worlds. The roleplay hub keeps the rules and the roster, so your second session still remembers which captain you lied to.
Built with two skills
roleplay turns the answers into a scene — who is in the room, which division they answer to, what happens when a rule is broken; quiz-maker writes question sets the same way this page was built: answer sourced first, question written second. All twelve answers come from the Bleach wiki; the illustrations are original, and this page is not affiliated with the rights holders.
Bleach quiz FAQ
Are these answers official?
The answers are sourced from the Bleach wiki, which is a fan-maintained encyclopedia, not from the publisher. Each one is written to match the wiki’s own wording so you can check it yourself.
How hard is the quiz?
It is a setting-and-mechanics quiz rather than a trivia quiz. If you have read the Soul Society arc you will get most of them; the Hōgyoku and Quincy questions are the ones that separate readers from wiki readers.
Is it spoiler-free?
It covers mechanics and organisation, including the existence of the Espada, the Hōgyoku and Bankai. It does not discuss late-arc deaths or the ending.
Can I use these questions for a pub quiz?
Yes. The answers are short enough to read out and specific enough to argue about, which is what a good round needs.
Why is the Quincy question last?
Because the answer is the setting’s central conflict: a Quincy destroys a Hollow’s soul completely instead of purifying it, which is what threatens the balance between the worlds.
Is this page official?
No. It is a fan-made page on Neta Studio, unaffiliated with the rights holders. Both illustrations are original work made for this page.
